Losing weight and saving money are not at all that different. If the latter requires spending less the former requires consuming fewer calories. Most of the people have a thinking that if they want to lose weight then they should stop the intake of calories. But what some people do not realize is that cutting too many calories from their diet can actually stop the weight loss, says Lisa Young, Ph.D., RD, a nutritionist and adjunct professor of nutrition at New York University.
“Restricting calories too much almost always backfires,” Young cautions. The reason behind this is the body needs calories to burn calories. You can understand this by an example like if you want to light a fire then you need to throw lightning in the fireplace to kindle it, she adds.
So you need to think of such foods which act as your body’s kindling, which stimulates your metabolism and helps in weight loss. When you will have an enough balanced meal then the body first use the food for fuel and later it turns to the fat it is been holding onto for energy, Young claims. If you restrict the calories too severely then your body goes into the “starvation mode”, and it will break down the lean muscle tissue just to provide energy and so it can slow down your metabolism, which makes weight loss a very difficult task.
It is a very tough task to stick to a very low-calorie diet. If you will not eat enough for breakfast then you will be dull the whole day and will start starving which leads you to overeat in lunch as it would be very difficult for you to skip the food.
There is a different dosage of calories for everyone on the basis of their activity levels, goals, and gender. According to the National Institutes of Health, most women should consume at least of twelve thousand to fifteen thousands of calories daily, if you will not take these figures seriously and consume below these figures then it would be extremely difficult for your body to perform the basic biological functions as well which keeps you healthy.
1. You think about food all the time
You are not able to work properly the whole day and not able to finish your daily works just because you are wondering about the food you will going to have to dinner. Is this is happening with you as well? If yes then you are also not eating enough. Having some healthy snacks between different meals can help you to increase your daily caloric intake and hence keep you focused and energized throughout your day and so helps in accomplishing all your tasks. You will not think about food all day. To stave off the hunger and overeating, Young advises pairing a protein-packed food with something which is really rich in fiber. Cottage cheese or some proportion of nuts with some fruits that fits the nutritional bill.
